In my first interview on my web-page, I will be interviewing my friend, and talented artist, who has an affinity for visual kei, and alternative aesthetics, Brie. Brie has been working in the art field for a long time, and is a wonderful person that I am honored to interview. ●Do you mind introducing yourself? I'm Brieona, usually just called Brie, and I'm an artist who draws a lot of visual kei fanart, along with my own personal projects! ●Could you give us some background on how you got into visual kei? Well, my first intro to visual kei was during an ex-friend's stream, where they played Malice Mizer's "Illuminati" PV. The sound, the camp, the pretty people drew me in… However, that didn't launch me into visual kei because I don't have a good attention span. I ended up seeing visual kei on tumblr, but I distinctly remember sometime in the early summer of June 2018 seeing DADAROMA’s “溺れる魚” PV...At first I was like "Well, this is whatever.".. But something drew me back to the sound and I got oddly hooked. Then, a week or two later I saw Cali≠Gari's "Maguro" due to YouTube suggestions and the rest is history. ●Are there any other music genres you’re into? If so what are some genres and artists you can recommend readers? Yes! I've been very passionate about music for many years, and used to frequently update a semi-popular band blog on Tumblr. I tend to gravitate toward goth, industrial, punk, rock, and grunge overall, but I do like a lot of 80s to 2000s pop music as well! As for non-visual kei recommendations, i’d say Jack off Jill, of Montreal, Garbage, Placebo, The Birthday Massacre, Lunachicks, The Distillers, Circus Contraption, Heart Throb Mob, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, sELF, Snake River Conspiracy, Summer Camp, Timbre Timber, and Specimen! All kinds of a mix from goth to funk to circus music and pop. ●You have a very distinct art style that is very unique, how did you develop this style? Thank you! I’ve been practicing all my life, and when I was really young I planned to become a manga artist… That never happened, but it was a big fundamental part of my art. I took a few art classes in high school, but honestly I kind of skid by with all of them (quite literally, being allowed to do whatever I wanted in one). What really pushed me was learning some basic shape fundamentals from a high school friend, along with combining things I saw online that I liked. A lot of my other inspirations come from architecture, old 90s games, and general aesthetics and art from things I grew up with. ●You seem to post a lot of original character artwork, do you mind telling us a bit about your characters? I have a bunch of original characters, but a big focus for me for a while has been my visual-kei inspired ocs and those around them! My current “main” oc is my boy Yukio, who was inspired by my love of eroguro + angura kei bands (specifically things like Cali≠Gari, Inugami Circus Dan, Guruguru Eigakan, ect). I didn’t plan to, but I ended up making other band guys for him to interact with, heavily inspired by real life bands (such as an old school 90s vocalist with a vampire aesthetic named Mars, a washed up drama-ridden band guy who’s gone through numerous bands named Akihiko) and also some bangya, ranging from normal everyday fan, to a super collector to someone who’d attack someone for liking their favorite guy as well. ●You also seem to draw a lot of classic visual kei band-men, most notably Kamijo of the Lareine era, and Mana of Malice Mizer, I take it you’re a fan of these bands from that era? Yes! For the most part, I gravitate towards 90s visual kei bands, both in terms of sounds and aesthetics. I listen to older visual kei in large part, so I tend to draw what I'm jamming to at the moment. Lareine tends to be really soothing music for me (..to the point it helped me fall asleep during car rides.) and Malice Mizer holds a special place in my heart sound-wise, and cliche as it is, I always see Mana as one of the most fashionable people in visual kei. ●You also seem to do other art in other media such as sewing and making plushies of your characters, I’ve also noticed you have an interest in ball jointed dolls, is this something you’re also passionate about? Yeah! I used to hate human dolls as a kid, much to my mother’s dismay, but ended up falling in love with ball jointed dolls as I got a little older. I only recently got a larger sized one, along with buying some make-your-own nendoroids and I've been slowly working on those. Sewing has been an interest of mine since I was younger and used to cut up my clothes and sew new ones for my stuffed animals. In the future, I'm planning to do an homage to my favorite band men in doll form as well. ●You’ve also drawn a bunch of pictures of the band, The Gallo, is this another one of your favorites? Yes! I love the Gallo and they were one of my first bands I was hooked on. In addition, I love their looks and their unique sound. They were actually the first band I bought anything of, which was the Galloism DVD and a Jojo cheki from Chaotic Harmony. I was so embarrassed of my parents finding out about me buying a cheki that I didn’t send it to my house, I had it delivered to a friend who later gave it to me at a cafe. ●Below, I asked Brie to share some of her VK collection, you can see her extensive and ever-growing cheki collection as well as other interesting and rare items. ●What would be your top 10 visual kei bands that you’d have on a playlist? Right now, i’d say: 1. Cali≠Gari 2. Malice Mizer 3. Mercuro 4. Luci’fer Luscious Violenoue/ Gille’Loves/fiction 5. Sibilebashir 6. The Gallo 7. Plastic Tree 8. Shazna 9. Missalina Rei 10. La’Mule If you'd like to be able to listen to the selection of bands that Brie listed, please check out the playlist made for her, here: Clownhauntings' Top 10 Visual Kei Bands That'd Be On a Playlist ●You also seem to be posting updates about a very artistic and creative game you’re working on, anything you can tell the readers about on this project? Yes! It’s called 18782, and the base explanation I give to it is; You play as an 18-year old bangyao named Arakawa who’s obsessed with an up and coming Singer (Yukio), and you play through the week leading up to your first meet and greet with him. A lot of the game focuses on Arakawa as a person, along with the world around him, from tweets to forum gossip to talking to other bangya irl and getting chekis. It accidentally became a really personal project, and I didn’t expect people to be as interested in it actually, but the support has really made me want to see this project out. For more information and the current demo, it’s at Saturn-Games.tumblr.com. ●Lastly, thank you for the interview, do you mind telling readers where they can contact you and see your work?
